Iltani Resources Hits High-Grade Silver-Indium at Orient West, Eyes Q4 Resource Upgrade

Iltani Resources (ASX: ILT) has reported another round of high-grade silver-indium results from its Orient West prospect in North Queensland, reinforcing evidence that its Herberton project hosts Australia’s largest known silver-indium system. The results, from 16 reverse circulation holes, arrive as the company nears completion of its 110-hole drilling campaign and pushes toward an updated Mineral Resource Estimate due in the fourth quarter of 2026, a milestone ASX silver investors are likely to watch closely given how tight the global silver market has become.

Drilling Confirms Continuity at Orient West

The standout intercepts included 10 metres at 308 grams per tonne silver equivalent from 66 metres, with a higher grade zone of 3 metres at 974g/t and 1 metre at 1,932g/t. A second hole returned 19 metres at 343g/t from 114 metres, including 8 metres at 764g/t and a narrow 2 metre interval grading 2,561g/t silver equivalent. Iltani said the assays confirm mineralisation continuity to the northeast of the existing resource, where broader, lower grade zones are interspersed with narrower high-grade sulphide lenses. The Orient deposit already carries a resource of 62.5 million tonnes at 81.5g/t silver equivalent, containing 45.9 million ounces of silver alongside 725 tonnes of indium, and the new assays are expected to feed directly into an upgraded estimate once the drilling program wraps up this month.

Indium Adds a Critical Minerals Angle

What sets Orient apart from most ASX silver plays is its indium content. Indium is used in touchscreens, semiconductors and solar cells, and its status as a critical mineral has only strengthened after China tightened export controls on the metal earlier this year. That backdrop helped Iltani secure an $8 million funding commitment from the Queensland Investment Corporation’s Critical Minerals and Battery Technology Fund, a dynamic echoing the broader supply chain push covered in our recent look at rare earths and critical minerals independence.

Timing Against a Tightening Silver Market

The news lands with silver trading near US$66 an ounce, not far off record highs, as the Silver Institute flags a sixth consecutive annual supply deficit. Explorers adding scale to existing high-grade systems, rather than starting from scratch, tend to draw more attention in that environment, a theme also visible in Investigator Silver’s recent extensions in South Australia. For Iltani, the next catalyst is completion of assays across the full 110-hole program, followed by the updated resource estimate and a scoping study targeted for early 2027.
