Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has returned the highest-grade assay results yet from its Lighthorse prospect, part of the company’s Pinjin Gold Project roughly 140 kilometres northeast of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia. A 19-hole reverse circulation program intersected 19.70 grams per tonne gold and a second high-grade hit of 16.50 grams per tonne, alongside broad zones of dispersed mineralisation that geologists believe point to a larger, concealed gold system beneath shallow cover. The results add to a run of exploration success across the Eastern Goldfields this year, as explorers chase extensions of the region’s deep gold endowment while prices near record highs support aggressive drilling budgets.
What the Drilling Found
The latest program at Lighthorse comprised 19 RC holes for 3,194 metres, following on from earlier drilling that had already extended the strike length of primary mineralisation past 1,100 metres. The two standout intercepts, 19.70 g/t and 16.50 g/t, are the best individual assays recorded at the prospect to date. Just as significant, according to the company, are wide swarms of lower-grade intercepts spanning 36 to 54 metres downhole across several holes, which management interprets as the halo of a bigger mineralised system still largely untested at depth.
Why Location Matters
Lighthorse sits within the Laverton Tectonic Zone, a gold corridor credited with hosting more than 30 million ounces of endowment and located roughly 25 kilometres along strike from Ramelius Resources’ Rebecca project, which is targeting first production in late 2027. The neighbourhood puts Pinjin in company with other Goldfields exploration stories that have kept investor attention on the region this year, including Astral Resources’ Think Big discovery near Kalgoorlie and Minerals 260’s high-grade hits at Bullabulling.
What It Means for Investors
For ASX gold investors, Lighthorse is another reminder that Western Australia’s established goldfields still have room for new discoveries, even after more than a century of mining. Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has flagged follow-up infill and extensional drilling to test the geometry and depth of the system, with more assays likely to shape how the market values the project. Investors can track newsflow directly through Kalgoorlie Gold Mining’s company page on the ASX. The broader gold price backdrop, with bullion trading near record levels according to the World Gold Council, continues to underwrite exploration budgets across the sector, though grassroots discoveries like this one carry the usual risks of early-stage drilling.
