Robotic shaft liner reduces hazards

  • Published: 08/07/2009

Macmahon Underground has developed a robotic shotcrete shaft liner for underground mining applications.

The robotic shaft liner has been designed to spray shotcrete linings in vertical or inclined shafts. It can line surface to underground raises or be taken underground to line internal raises.

According to the company, the technology can reduce the risk of hazards to workers who move hose lines on the surface around open holes.

The device can asses the thickness of the final shotcrete lining using an onboard scanning system. Infrared cameras relay images of the spraying back to the operator.

Macmahon Underground says the robotic shaft liner can also significantly reduce the hazards associated with working around moving lines with the use of hose reels and guarding.

The technology is currently completing various contracts throughout Australia.
