Power Electric Switchboards deliver switchroom to coal mine

Power Electric Switchboards (PES) has completed and delivered a 50 tonne, 25 m switchroom for the Carborough Downs Coal Mine expansion project.

The switchroom was driven from Brisbane by tuck on a 1000km journey the mine, located near Moranbah in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

PES was awarded the contract for the switchroom by project manager Ausenco in November 2008.

The switchgears were supplied by NHP and ABB provided variable speed drives to ensure compatibility with existing plant equipment.

Carborough Downs will become one of Australia’s largest coal mines when the expansion project is completed in November 2009.
