TECO Australia will release its new range of Flameproof Exde low-voltage squirrel-cage motors for hazardous mining industry conditions on Stand 1004. A special feature of the range is that the motors have an increased safety terminal box which is not dependent on containing an explosion. The increased safety terminal box means surface corrosion on the terminal box is not a threat to safety whereas Exd flamepaths on terminal boxes are prone to damage and corrosion making them unusable; increased safety terminals are easier to connect; earthing inside the box is possible using the external armour or braid; a flameproof gland is not required; the terminal box lid employs a gasket which creates a better weatherproof seal; and is suitable for all Group II gases (IIA, IIB & IIC). The new Flameproof Exde motors have ranges of 0.18kW-110kW, can be powered by commercial voltage up to 690V, 50Hz/60Hz or variable speed drives (inverters). Also available, for safe area applications is the TECO AEBH high-thrust vertical hollow shaft motor for deep well turbine pump applications.
