Industrial Conveying Australia has called on Australian companies to employ local engineers or original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) when designing their materials handling systems.
The company said materials handling specialists, especially those that are OEMs, can ensure the technology is consistent throughout a project.
According to the company, local design engineers can also provide a more direct line of communication, which allows for fast and more accurate design, component sourcing, installation and ongoing technical assistance.
Industrial Conveying managing director Don Erskine said the success of a project comes down to design expertise and the standard of equipment that is supplied.
“A materials handling project, no matter the size or complexity, is only as good as the sum of its parts,” he said.
“Often, the task of designing a materials handling system and then sourcing the equipment for it is handed over to a third party company.
“While they may have good general knowledge, they often lack specialised expertise in materials handling.”
