CQ Uni offers professional development at QREX

  • Published: 18/06/2009

CQ University will highlight professional development opportunities for people working in the mining industry on Stand 4010 during the 2009 Queensland Resources Expo (QREX) trade exhibition at the Rockhampton Showgrounds from July 21-23.

The University can provide professional development opportunities to people working in the disciplines of mining, engineering, maintenance management, built environment, occupational health and safety, environmental science, procurement, and business management. It can provide study options to suit any level of experience and knowledge via distance education.

The University has an existing suite of associate degrees in mining, an existing mining engineering partnership degree (with the University of Queensland) and is developing new postgraduate programs and short courses.

More widely, University researchers have also been working to improve the quality of mine water, develop best practice for electricity generation from coal seam methane and boost the productivity of rail operations.

CQ University was recently awarded $2 million in Federal Government funding for the establishment of place-based education pathways at the Gladstone and Mackay campuses.

This will provide a platform to develop solutions to support local labour recruitment, and assist with the development and retention strategies of business and industry in Central Queensland, benefitting all types of resource industries.
