Flowserve Pump Division has completed the 220km water pipeline that will feed Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
The pipeline, from Burdekin Falls to Moranbah is one component of an overall pipeline project worth $300 million, and is expected to help deliver about 60 million extra tones of coal and about 4000 jobs for the Burdekin region in north Queensland.
The start of the project was significantly delayed by flooding rains which hit the Burdekin region and prevented the submersible pumps from being installed for several months.
The project is made up of four pumping stations across the 220km on typical tablelands hills and plateaus. Station 1 is in the river, with the three Pleuger pumps delivering 290 litres per second to a head of 89m.
The pumps are 450x400mm TKL ECSD two-stage, horizontal split case.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said the pipeline guaranteed a continuation of existing water supplies and ensured a reliable water supply to an area vital to the state’s economy and the mining industry.
It represents an increase of 1.5 ml per day on the water previously supplied by mining companies, BHP Billiton, Mitsubishi Alliance and Anglo Coal Australia.
