ATF Mining Electrics develops safe underground switchboards

  • Published: 17/03/2010

ATF Mining Electrics has launched an 11 kV underground switchboard which is designed to protect operators from internal arc faults.

According to the company, the switchboard has a certified short time fault current withstand rating of 25 kA for one second at 11 kV.

The unit also comes with a certified internal arc fault protection rating of 12 kA for one second at 11 kV.

To further boost worker safety, the switchboard can also be remotely operated and comes with duplicated mechanical and electrical interlocks to ensure safe isolation switching and visible earthing.

The company says the fault driven overcurrent protection system installed in the switchboard is certified to IEC 60255.

This ensures safe clearance under severe short circuit conditions, which are often encountered in underground applications.

The switchboard also comes with a 10 kA self-revealing lightning surge protection.
