Several Indigenous people have graduated from the Mining Industry Skills Centre’s Work Readiness pilot program.
The ten participants graduated in a traditional community ceremony in Woorabinda.
The Program was developed to help combat the skills shortage in the resources sector by providing inexperienced personnel with an accelerated pathway into productive work within the industry.
The Mining Industry Skills Centre collaborated with The Salvation Army, training organisation New Horizons, Anglo Coal Dawson Mines and Downer EDi Mining in order to execute the pilot program in the Woorabinda community.
The Work Readiness Program is due to run more pilots before the course is rolled out as an accelerated career pathway into the mines.
