Website spruiks MCA climate stance

The Minerals Council of Australia has established a new website to push its case in the current debate surrounding the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).

The website, www.emissions.minerals.org.au, outlines the organisation’s criticisms of the CPRS, projected job losses by state and by industry and alternative suggestions to cut emissions.

It also provides access to the various economic models carried out by Access Economics, the Australian Coal Association, Frontier Economics and Concept Economics.

“Australia’s proposed emissions trading scheme is out of step with schemes being developed around the world,” the Minerals Council said.

“The CPRS will impose a harsher energy tax on a higher share of Australian industry and households earlier than competing schemes in the US and European Union.

“The US and European schemes will provide more transitional assistance and impose lower costs on their respective economies.”
