WA royalties invested in 233 regional development projects

Western Australian Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has announced more than $140 million worth of grants through the Royalties for Regions scheme. 

The funds will be invested into 233 new projects spread across nine regions, the Minister said.

“Royalties for Regions funding will contribute more than $27million, with additional funding provided by hundreds of other organisations - both big and small - supporting our regional communities,” he said. 

“Every regional development commission has had an incredibly tough job allocating these funds.”

The scheme takes a proportion of the revenues gained through mining royalties and funnels it back into regional infrastructure and community projects. 

Around $11.59 million will be used for 22 projects in Goldfields-Esperance, 26 projects in the Kimberley, 30 projects in the Pilbara, 26 projects in the mid-west region. 

The projects include the Ravensthorpe Town Hall redevelopment, the Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service recovery centre, the Mt Magnet Mining and Pastoral Heritage Museum and the Pilbara Aboriginal Arts Enterprise project.
