Tree clearing safety report

THE Western Australian Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DoCEP) has released a safety report following a near miss incident involving the operator of a D11 dozer during tree clearing operations.

The near miss was experienced when a 20m high jarrah tree fell onto the dozer.

The incident occurred at a mine site in the South West of Western Australia, according to the report.

The report identified the potential for timber limbs to penetrate through safety glass windows on earthmoving scrapers at mine sites in Western Australia, and recommended that guards, mesh or grids be fitted to cab windows to protect the operator.
