Super Pit operator pleads guilty to fatality

Operators of Kalgoorlie’s super pit have pleaded guilty to charges relating to the death of a miner on site.

The fatality occurred when the 54 year old female driver of a dump truck fell from the cabin, in January last year.

The operators of the pit, Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines (KCGM) pleaded guilty to charges relating to failing to provide and maintain safe working conditions.

The miner also pleaded guilty for failure to appoint a deputy quarry manager when the usual manager was unavailable during the time of the fatality.

KCGM will face the Perth Magistrate’s court in August, later this year.
