THE Mining Industry Skills Centre (MISC) has launched a skills strategy report providing detailed, strategic solutions to benefit employees, companies and the industry.

The strategy, entitled Securing the Critical Capability — Towards an holistic skills strategy for the mining industry, has been developed through consultation with industry, Government and external stakeholders.

The strategy outlines the current issues facing the Australian mining industry on decreasing employee turnover, providing consistent, quality training throughout the mining industry and ensuring the development of a highly skilled and sustainable workforce.

The report was compiled using data from the MISC’s Heartbeat Project, which outlines the extent of the current and predicted skills shortages.

Following the release of the report, a Strategic Leaders Group will be developed to supervise the project and provide regular reviews of the industry’s needs.
