Simulators will stimulate training

Downer EDI Mining has announced that it will use Immersive Technologies’ Advanced Equipment Simulators for its ‘Back to Basics’ training program.

The program will take place at mining sites in Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.

Using the simulators allows operators to be trained without being placed in dangerous situations with real equipment, Downer EDI chief executive officer Damien O’Reilly said.

“The simulators enable us to train our operators to respond to emergency situations without putting them at risk by exposing them to real-life emergencies,” he said.

“The simulator's safe learning environment allows both unskilled and skilled employees to be trained much faster.”

Using the simulators also allows Downer to avoid a drain on the use of needed machines.

“We do not have to pull machinery out of production to train people,” O’Reilly said.

“Our clients can be assured that we are providing skilled operators while maintaining production rates and minimising plant downtime.”
