Safety in Action returns in April

Australia's largest professional Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) gathering, the Safety in Action Conference, is slated for Melbourne in April this year.

The conference, convened by the Safety Institute of Australia, will once again be held alongside the Melbourne Materials Handling trade show.

According to the organisers, new OHS laws unveiled just before Christmas are likely to attract a fresh influx of visitors.

The events are typically attended by at least 10,000 visitors every year, including hundreds of health and safety delegates from around the country.

Stan Krpan, a director with the event's principal sponsor WorkSafe Victoria, will speak about the impact of the national OHS harmonisation laws.

"Harmonisation achieved what some people thought impossible," he said in a statement.

"Now is the time to start preparing for the introduction of the new laws.

"The indicators are that the economy is recovering and when business begins to invest again, it should be in safe outcomes.

"This has an enormous impact on attracting the right workers."

More than 300 suppliers will attend the events, which will be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 20 to 22 April.

A fire and security equipment area, which debuted in last year's event, will be expanded, while a health and aged care area will be included for the first time.
