Safety conference on again

The NSW Minerals Council is once again preparing for Annual OHS Conference with heath and fitness as the central theme for 2009.

The council has also introduced a separate category in its innovation awards, dedicated to rewarding health and fitness initiatives.

The deadline for entries to the awards is February 13 2009; finalists will be announced in March and the overall winners will be announced at the annual conference in April.

Eligible health related innovations include initiatives on ergonomic enhancement; health assessments; human factors; fitness for work programs; health surveillance; occupational health risks; and specific health risks, like the ageing workforce and obesity.

Eligible safety related innovations will include solutions to specific OHS issues involving design and redesign of equipment and machinery; introduction of new or improved OHS management processes; development of safe work procedures; and development of new training and education programs.
