Ready for the upswing

Queensland’s next State government needs to implement a plan to take full advantage of the next mining upswing, Queensland Resources Council (QRC) CEO Michael Roche said.

“What we are looking for from the next State Government is an approach that supports the sector’s true potential,” he said.

“The timing of the revival in global resources demand is something that Queensland cannot influence but it is in every Queenslander’s interests for the state to be ready for the inevitable upswing in economic confidence.”

The QRC said it wants the next State Government to commit to resource royalty and taxation stability, more streamlined project approval processes for resource developments and industry infrastructure, and a plan that recognises and maximises the opportunities flowing from the development of an export LNG industry.

“We are looking forward to hearing from the ALP and the LNP on their plans for the future of the Queensland resources sector,” Roche said.
