The Queensland Government’s role in an upcoming mine safety demonstration in China could be a major financial positive for the State, Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy Stephen Robertson said this week from Beijing.
“China’s strong interest in improving mine safety has the potential to become a multi-million dollar industry,” he said.
“This project will increase export opportunities for Queensland businesses, and that means jobs.”
In Beijing to attend a briefing on the joint China/Australia mine safety demonstration project, Robertson said the demonstration aims to export Queensland’s expertise in mine safety in order to aid one of the busiest mining countries in the world.
“Queensland has a wealth of expertise in providing sophisticated, specialised mine safety equipment, technology, services and training, built over more than 100 years of mining in our State,” he said.
The demonstration will take place in Xuandong near Beijing, and will be supported by a trade mission at the China Coal and Mining Expo in Beijing in late October.
The project will be managed by Queensland Government agency Safety in Mines Testing and Research Station (SIMTARS), and is being funded by the Australian Government, the Chinese Government and a local Chinese mining company.
