Mining safety guide outlines changes to national legislation

This year's Mining Industry Guide to Workplace Safety will focus on helping employers and employees prepare for the imminent national occupational health and safety legislation.

The National Mine Safety Framework (NMSF) is an initiative of the Ministerial Council on Mineral and Petroleum Resources, which has been developing mining regulations for the national regime.

The guide, developed by Pro-Visual Publishing, explains the reasons for the changes and the seven strategies which will make up the new legislation.

According to the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre, the guide is an accessible safety resource for the mining industry.

"This year's guide provides valuable, up-to-date information regarding proximity detection, mining safety and health laws, musculoskeletal disorders, noise levels as well as health management plans,” said Prof David Cliff, from the Safety and Health Centre.

The guide will be distributed to all mining and mining contractor companies, reaching all active mine sites across the country.
