Industry leaders rewarded for service

Two of Queensland’s resource sector leaders have been honoured by 900 of their peers at the Queensland Resources Council’s annual lunch.

Outgoing QRC President and chief executive officer of Ensham Resources John Pegler was presented with a life membership award by the State’s Premier Anna Bligh.

The Council’s chief executive Michael Roche said life membership was not an award the organisation presented lightly.

“Until now, only three have been awarded since the formation of the Queensland Mining Council in 1991 and, this is the first life membership awarded since our name change in 2003 to the Queensland Resources Council,” Roche said.

Pegler has served on the QRC Board since 2002.

Coal Industry leader Ian McCauley was also commended on the day, taking home the QRC medal.

“Ian McCauley is a fitting recipient of QRC’s medal, which is awarded to recognise outstanding service to the resources sector,” Roche told MINING DAILY.

“Beyond normal business expectations, Ian McCauley and John Pegler have made their contributions to enhancing and maintaining the mining industry’s social licence to operate in Queensland,” he said.
