Hunter coal dust monitor controls suspended

Controls on the construction of new coal dust monitoring stations are to be suspended, accelerating their implementation.

The NSW State Government has a passed a decision that will see up to 14 coal dust monitoring stations built as exempt developments in the Hunter.

This means the stations can be constructed on rural land without further approval as long as it does not impact upon the environment or local wild life.

"The amendment will simplify the planning approval process for these facilities which, once up and running, will provide valuable information on air quality in Upper Hunter mining areas and populated centres,'' State planning minister Tony Kelly said.
