Greenlight for Roy Hill rail

Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting has received approval for the construction of a rail line from its iron ore project to Port Hedland.

The miner signed an agreement which will see it build a 300km rail line from its Roy Hill iron ore project to Port Hedland.

“On completion, this project will enable greater access for smaller miners to rail infrastructure in the region, with provision for access or haulage services for these companies,” West Australia Premier Colin Barnett said.

The infrastructure project which is expected to cost $7.2 billion, and will employ around 1500 during its construction and a permanent staff of 750, has been slated to begin in mid 2011
