Newly instated Prime Minister Julia Gillard has made an open call for greater negotiations on the proposed Resources Super Profits Tax.
Speaking in Canberra, the Prime Minister stated that there was a need for a consensus between the mining industry and the Government, after a series of failed talks between the industry and former Rudd Government.
Gillard explained the need for a middle ground to be reached to ensure that the nation can benefit from the tax without damaging the industry.
She went on to say that as a show of good faith by the industry, that the resources sector ceases the current run of anti RSPT advertising.
Former Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan has been promoted to Deputy Prime Minister.
