Galaxy secures mining approval for Mt Cattlin

Lithium producer Galaxy Resources yesterday announced it had secured mining approval for its Mt Cattlin Spodumene project, near Ravensthorpe, from the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum.

The approval is the final pre-development milestone for the project and will allow the company to commence mining and production in 2010.

Galaxy is scheduled to commence construction of earthworks and the minerals processing plant next week.

The company’s managing director Iggy Tan said the approval represented a very significant milestone for the development of the Mt Cattlin Spodumene Project.

“With this mining approval and all funding in place, we look forward to having the Mt Cattlin mine up and running by the third quarter of 2010,” he said.

“This will allow us to capture the near term opportunity of the growing lithium market and deliver returns to shareholders.

“The project will employ a residential workforce of approximately 70 to 100 people.”
