Resources minister Martin Ferguson is to meet with miners in Western Australia discuss the changes brought in by the Minerals Resources Rent Tax (MRRT).
A number of junior miners have voiced their anger over the MRRT, saying that they were sidelined in the decision process and have had no representation.
Junior miners believe that the new tax will provide small relief for many in the industry.
They have called for greater clarity on the outcomes of the MRRT for mining, claiming there are still a number of unanswered questions.
Opposition leader Tony Abbot met with some junior miners in support of their beliefs.
“What the Government is trying to do is bluff the industry into pre-election silence,” he told the ABC.
Abbott went on to say the MRRT is no better than Kevin Rudd’s proposed mining tax, and called for the new tax to be scrapped completely.
Minister Ferguson will meet with the mining representative at 9:30 eastern time today.
