South Australia’s mineral exploration expenditure rose for the sixth consecutive quarter in the December quarter of 2007, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

The figures show South Australia moved ahead of Queensland in total mineral exploration spending in 2007 into second place behind Western Australia.

ABS figures for the December quarter 2007 show that mineral exploration in South Australia has grown to $93.5 million, compared to $59.1 million for the same three-month period in 2006.

The 12-month total exploration expenditure of $331.3 million to December 2007 has more than tripled the $100 million target for 2007 set by South Australia’s State Strategic Plan.
