Employee sustains head injury at Century Mine

A contractor engaged by OZ Minerals at its Century Mine in North Queensland has sustained a serious head injury while working in the pit.

The employee received initial first aid at the scene and, after being stabilised at the site’s medical centre, was then flown to Townsville Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

He is currently in a serious condition and receiving medical attention.

OZ Minerals has instigated an investigation into the incident.

Inspectors from the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy have arrived on site and will begin to examine the scene of the accident.

The mine has said it will co-operate fully with the Department’s investigation.
