Documentary reinforces disaster lessons

A DOCUMENTARY on Queensland’s worst mining disasters and the lessons learned from them was the centrepiece of the industry’s 2007 Health and Safety Conference in Townsville.

Make Safety Their Monument was commissioned by the conference organising committee, which consists of Queensland Resources Council (QRC), State Government and union representatives.

The documentary aims to reinforce the ‘step change’ theme of the conference, particularly during a period of expansion and new industry entrants.

This year’s conference included international speakers Scott Shappell, Professor of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University, South Carolina, US and Jeffery Kohler, Associate Director, Office of Mine Safety and Health Research at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Pittsburgh.
