Complete approval

Iluka Resources has cleared the final hurdle in its South Australian $420 million Jacinth-Ambrosia mineral sands project.

Yesterday the company announced that it had received the final regulatory approval from the SA Government with the signing of the Operational Mining and Rehabilitation Plan (Operation MARP) for the project.

The approval allows Iluka to commence mining and processing operations at the major Zircon deposit, which is located 200 kms North-West of Ceduna in SA’s Eucla Basin.

Work on the project is ahead of schedule and this final approval means things will start moving even faster, Iluka’s general manager of South Australian development Hans Umlauff said.

“The project is ahead of schedule and within budget,” he said.

“On the basis of current progress, Iluka is increasingly confident about the prospect of first production of heavy mineral concentrate being achieved in early 2010, ahead of the initial schedule of mid-2010.”
