Buyer beware: safety authorities

THE Department of Mines and Energy (DME) has released a safety report urging mine operators to be scrupulous when purchasing equipment for their minesite.

According to the report, a coal mine purchased a set of vehicle support stands from a retail tooling supplier for general use, however, the maximum operating height was not indicated on the stand.

The report was signed by the manager for safety and health central region Doug White.
