THE Queensland Resources Council (QRC) and the Queensland Government have agreed to open formal discussions on the development of the Mount Isa-Townsville rail link.

The development of Queensland’s North-West Minerals Province was discussed in a recent meeting with senior government and resource sector representatives.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, senior ministers and department Director-Generals took part in the meeting, convened by the QRC.

A stakeholder group will be established to work towards resolving the North West region’s future power needs, according to the QRC.

At the meeting, Deputy Premier Paul Lucas and Minister John Mickel agreed for their departments and Queensland Rail to open a formal dialogue with the QRC’s North West Working Group over the cost, capacity, and reliability of the Mount Isa-Townsville rail link.
