BHP Billiton has announced a $5 million commitment to a unique research and education alliance with Curtin University of Technology.
The alliance will contribute to the development of a Resources and Chemistry Precinct expected to attract some of the world’s leading researchers and educators to the University’s Bentley Campus.
BHP Billiton Iron Ore president Ian Ashby said the alliance would play an important role in sustaining the growth of the resources sector in Western Australia.
“In this context BHP Billiton and Curtin are working together to produce the next generation of industry professionals; people who will drive our global success in the future,” he said.
“And we are keen to see that some of these professionals come from the regional areas in which we operate.”
“These operations employ more than 12,000 permanent and contract workers.
They also generate thousands more jobs in the service and supply industries,” Ashby said.
