Motoring down a housing solution

Labrador motorhome manufacturer Swagman has launched the “Next Generation” series, with a Mount Isa company snapping up several of the homes to assist with housing for employees.

Swagman managing director Neil Ingram said the motorhomes could potentially offer a permanent housing alternative for many Australia-wide.

The motorhome allows the owner to change location easily, without forfeiting residence.

“The resources boom is proving to be not only a challenge for labour resources but also accommodation. For many, these locations are only temporary and the investment in housing is only short term,” Ingram said.

“A motorhome presents with all the luxury and mod cons of an apartment, however it also allows the owner to move location easily to wherever work may be, without forfeiting a home each time.

“Additionally, it means that they can take their homes closer into their work areas and then simply drive back to the major towns when needed, without the stress of having to find accommodation,” he said.

With the resources boom peaking at the moment, Ingram said there was a definite need for housing solutions in Queensland and Australia in general.

“The company who took up this option in Mount Isa is really taking a big step in the right direction, because we absolutely have to look at alternatives to the ongoing problem of housing,” he said.

According to the company, the “Next Generation” features world-first technology, spacious design and environmentally friendly elements that are setting standards high in the motorhome industry.
