Specialist Contractor Bilfinger Berger Services (BBS) recently completed the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation installation of the Isaac Plains Coal Preparation Plant (CPP) for Roche Mining earning it a spot as a finalist in the 4th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards.
Located 180 km west of Mackay in central Queensland, it is expected that by the end of January this greenfieldproject will process 500 tph of coal.
The patented Roche design of a 4-armed stacker, the first of its kind in the world, posed construction challenges for the BBS team.
The solution involved assembling the structure in modules, with each arm requiring a two crane lifting arrangement.
More than 132 staff were employed in the IsaacPlainsproject.
The project has been one in a number of BBS design and bulk handling projects.
BBS also completed the West Mine Development for Hazelwood Power in the La TrobeValley.
Delivered in stages over a four year period, the company relocated and upgraded a coal receiving and handling plant without interrupting coal supplies to the power station.
Additionally the company won the West Angeles Conveyor Project for Pilbara Iron in 2006.
The project will increase the output of the mine by over 3 Mtpa.
