The Cornwall Coal Company mines rescue team was established in 1981, following a fatal methane explosion at the Duncan Colliery.
The team was established with assistance from the Newcastle Mines Rescue Station and now utilises the Southern Mines Rescue Station (Mines Rescue Services, NSW) to resource its training needs.
The rescue team is fully funded by Cornwall Coal Mines and continues to provide rescue capability to the business and across the country when required.
It most recently played an integral role in the rescue of the two miners at the Beaconsfield mine cave-in.
The Cornwall Coal Mines rescue team, under instruction from the Incident management team, worked 12-hour shifts for seven days of the Gold Mine rescue and is a finalist in the 4th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards.
The team has also achieved first place in the Tasmanian Mines Rescue Competition at Henty Gold Mine in Tasmania, November 2006.
The Cornwall Coal Mines Rescue Team takes great pride in the professional way they contributed to the rescue of the miners.
The team hone their skills by entering State and National Mine Rescue Competitions that involve underground mines emergency procedures and recovery, first aid and fire fighting.
