Metalliferous Mine of the Year Finalist: Angas Mine

The mine employed a civil construction approach to tunnel excavation in order to combat the problem. The mine used a drilling jumbo to erect initial roof support, and cautiously dug out the face in two stages. As hard rock appeared in the decline floor, and then increasingly became part of the advancing face, the material had to be broken in a way that wouldn't shake up the silt too much.

Angas is expected to produce up to 65,000 tonne of zinc and 24,000 tonne of copper-lead concentrate annually when in full production.
