Innovative Mining Solution Finalist: BHP Billiton

Jessica Darnbrough

BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is a finalist in the 5th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards for their 'suncat' inventory management system.

The 'Suncat' system ensures that inventory figures are accurate and real-time, and when personnel need a specific item they are confident that they can locate it.

BMA installed ‘Suncat’ interfaced to SAP solution that caters for all of their requirements.

They now have a real-time tracking environment for all of their Inventory/asset management.

BMA now have 300 mine personnel with RFID chips embedded into their mine helmets; they have coded over 90% of the 17,000 items and designed the firmware to link to SAP.

RFID portals have been installed at all entrances and exits to the warehouse including the main roller door access and every personnel will be logged and tracked as they enter or exit the facility.

The item that they are carrying will also be logged and booked into their inventory system.
