Export deal worth millions

AGREEMENTS signed between China and Western Australian resource companies could produce millions of dollars of export income, according to the Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources.

Western Australian Premier Alan Carpenter and the China’s National Development Reform Commission chairman Ma Kai witnessed signing of three agreements in Western Australia recently.

Two agreements between SinoSteel Corporation and Rio Tinto lock in continued negotiations on the expansion of the Channar Mining Joint Venture iron-ore project in the Pilbara.

Shell and PetroChina have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding recognising a 20-year agreement for the supply of one million tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year from the Gorgon gas project.

“China is now Western Australia’s highest ranked trading partner, with exports from WA to China now valued at almost $14 billion,” Carpenter said.
