Explosives truck released

Downer EDI Mining Blasting Services has recently launched its new mobile production unit, with advanced pump protection and interlocking auger extensions.
The launch of the technology was attended by Queensland Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson and key mining industry representatives.
The explosives truck is one of four the company recently imported from the United States.

Downer EDI Mining Blasting Services CEO Damien O’Reilly said the trucks had numerous safety benefits for employees.
“Apart from general safety features such as airbags and rollover protective structures, the trucks boast dual side loading to limit exposure to highwalls; advanced pump protection; and interlocking auger extensions that, if removed, immobilise the augers,” he said.
“The trucks also feature radio controlled hose systems; and 19-inch colour monitors have been installed in the cabins to enable drivers to remotely oversee the blasting process.”
Manufactured by US explosives handling equipment supplier Tread Corporation, the new trucks can each transport 24 tonnes of explosives material, with delivery rates of up to 1000 kgs per minute
The truck also features a series of compartments to hold ammonium nitrate, emulsion, diesel, water and gassing agents.
This design innovation enables the trucks to be set up for Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) only, heavy ANFO or wet shots, without sacrificing truck capacity.
