A partnership between Alcan and Yirrkala Business Enterprises (YBE) is a finalist in the 4th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards.
The partnership has created a unique mining relationship to further opportunities for Indigenous business and employment in the East Arnhem region.
Alcan’s satellite ore body at Rocky Bay is 17 km from the mine’s crushing station; too far for Alcan’s haul trucks to travel.
Before mining commenced at the site an alternative haulage solution had to be found.
The team from YBE work in close partnership with Alcan’s experienced mine operators who prepare the mining area and rip the bauxite ready for loading into YBE’s heavy vehicles.
