Eliminating hazards with mobile technology

Jessica Darnbrough

Swick Mining Services has developed a carrier-mounted underground drill rig that eliminates hazards associated with skid-mounted platforms. Underground diamond drilling is traditionally performed from a skid-mounted platform. Up to five separate, heavy components are required to be transported to each site, unloaded and positioned manually. A significant part of setting up skid-mounted drilling rigs involves exposure to several manual handling and related hazards. Swick Mining Services has combined and mounted the five existing components and the drilling platform onto one mobile carrier.
