A spate of incidents on separate minesites where employees have been seriously injured has forced the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries to release a safety bulletin highlighting the importance of sound mine safety practices.
Over the last few months four mineworkers have sustained serious injuries after being struck or crushed by mobile plant equipment.
The four incidents are currently under investigation by the NSW DPI Investigation Unit.
Preliminary investigation has established the circumstances of the incidents.
In all incidents the behaviour of the personnel around plant and machinery has resulted in the employees being at risk.
The director of the Mine Safety Operations Branch Rob Regan recommended that all minesites review the on site working relationships between those working in machines and those working on the ground.
Regan also recommended all sites employ the use of adequate training, signs and barriers.
