Chamber reveals key policy issues

Daniel Hall

The Chamber of Minerals and Energy Western Australia (CME) has called for greater coordination between the responsibilities of government, industry and community in the provisions of social and physical infrastructure in a recent outline of key policy issues for the WA’s resources sector.

The Government also called for greater investment by Governments in key social infrastructure areas of housing, health and education to improve the liveability of regional areas and enhance opportunity for local employment.

The recently announced CME policy checklist includes:

Planning for Western Australia’s future growth

Development of a State Energy policy

Investment in Innovation and Technology

Efficient and effective project approvals process

Investment in social and physical infrastructure

A timely, consistent and holistic approach to land-use planning

A transitional approach to emissions trading

Regional development through collaboration

Investment in people to address skills shortage and enhance indigenous employment

Creation of a safe and health work environment

The CME has also called for greater investment by governments in the key physical infrastructure areas of ports, road and rail to maximise and sustain investment in the State’s resources.
