Callie Underground productivity push

Daniel Hall

The Callie Underground Mine is owned by Newmont Australia and operated by HWE Mining.

HWE Mining provides mechanised underground development and stoping using drill and blast techniques, as well as maintenance and transportation services at the Callie Underground Mine.

Today, the mine employs more than 500 personnel, including 265 HWE Mining employees.

Currently producing two million tonnes of gold ore per year, the life of the mine is expected to extend beyond 2015.

In 2003, HWE Mining and Newmont Tanami established an innovative Alliance contract, integrating the companies’ capabilities into a single “organisation” to operate the mine as “one team”.

The mine has produced 10 Mt of ore and currently produces 430,000 ounces of gold annually, making it one of the most productive gold mines in Australia and a finalist in the 4th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards.
