Speaking at the opening of the Queensland Resources Expo (QREX) in Rockhampton, QRC chief executive Michael Roche said that a national action plan was essential to support and complement the coal industry’s financial commitment to the development and deployment of near zero-emission electricity generation technologies.
“Development and deployment of these breakthrough technologies is primarily a national and global challenge,” Roche said.
“We need a nationally coordinated approach to the management of carbon.”
“Elements to a nationally coordinated carbon management plan should include a nationwide search for commercially viable storage sites, a national regulatory and legislative framework, and planning for a national common user pipeline network,” according to Roche.
