Avko Mining contract innovation

Daniel Hall

Avko Mining is a finalist in the 4th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards for developing a contract concept that rewards and penalises both client and contractor depending on the outcome of projects.

The Avko contract system allows the contractor less risk and the client reduced costs if either party develops initiatives to reduce the scope of work.

The value of this to a contractor is threefold: firstly, it allows a contractor to use its financial opportunities to their maximum potential.

Secondly, the system allows the contractor to develop methods and ideas to reduce overall costs without reducing the contractorspotential margin.

Thirdly, the system builds a culture of continuous improvement.

The increasing tendency towards continuous improvements means the industry can optimise performance and reduce costs.

Avko Mining specialises in all aspects of underground mining.

Avko has experience with shaft and winze sinking, bulk sample excavations, rise mining, ground support, lateral development and stoping.

Locally owned, the company operates from premises in Kalgoorlie West.

Avko Mining has operated from the West Kalgoorlie Industrial area since 2000.

The company currently has operations in Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.

Avko started as an airleg mining contractor, with airleg mining still being an important part of the business.
