Alcoa’s environmental plans recognised

Daniel Hall

Alcoa of Australia has partnered with communities around Australia to give community and government stakeholders direct input into Alcoa’s environmental management processes.

Alcoa is a finalist in the 4th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards for this initiative.

In 2006, Alcoa’s WA mines and alumina refineries launched Environmental Improvement Plans, developed with assistance from representatives of local communities, employees, government agencies and non-government organisations.

They were the first Environmental Improvement Plans to be developed in WA, exceeding WA Government licensing requirements, setting

a new benchmark for the industry.
